Osteopathy

Osteopaths are qualified to degree level and are recognised allied health professionals by the NHS in England and maintain a professional registration with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).
Osteopathy is a process specialising in diagnosing, treating a wide range of medical health conditions, and preventing musculoskeletal disorders. Our aim as osteopaths at New Forest Sports Massage Clinic is to restore the normal function and stability of your joints to encourage the body to heal itself. Osteopaths are trained to identify any serious conditions that may appear musculoskeletal but perhaps are not. In this case we would refer a patient to another health practitioner for further investigations and tests to get a further understanding of their problem.

Services

Treatment is patient-focused and hands-on involving numerous skilled techniques, from joint manipulation (spine to peripheral joints) to soft tissue massage (ligaments, tendons, muscles) and stretching, all to promote an efficient functioning mind, body, and spirit as osteopaths look to treat the whole person.
In the professional opinion of your osteopath, they may extend the treatment to offering self-help advice on lifestyle changes to support your recovery.

Neuro Kinetic Therapy

A personalised route to optimal health.

You probably haven’t heard of NKT. However, your osteopath Sally has been living her own life for 13years with muscle testing. It is a revolutionary approach to treating movement dysfunctions and pain that subsequently occurs because of this.

The root cause to many pain and movement problems are in your medical, injury and trauma history. This is paramount to our treatment with you and vital to ask lots of questions to build the bigger picture.

For example, rather than an electrician blindly checking every wire in the house, it’s like pinpointing the exact circuit or outlet where the problem lies, allowing for targeted repair and resolution. NKT helps with the focus of your symptoms and then restoration.

This technique helps to identify the dysfunctional patterns that occur in our bodies because of trauma, stress, injury, posture and activities. For example, a golfer (rotational pattern and mainly one-sided game) is suffering from chronic right sided back pain that is interfering with his golf swing. After an assessment we can identify that there is a muscle imbalance likely to be the cause of his pain because his back muscles are overworking while his leg extension muscles are under performing.

Think of Sally as being the interpreter between your brain and body. NKT technique allows Sally to focus on the intricate relationship between the nervous system and muscular system.

At the end of your session, you will need to continue this correction with a couple of very simple and quick home exercises. This allows the brain to transfer the functional movement pattern from short-term to long -term memory.

Neurological Integration System

This technique focuses on restoring the communication pathways within the nervous system to address a range of health problems. NIS can uncover underlying issues that might not be evident through traditional diagnostic methods. For example, have you ever questioned why you keep needing massage/manipulation on your shoulder but never 100% disappears? NIS may highlight a muscle or gland dysfunctional pattern that is not taught in chiropractic, physiotherapy or osteopathy.

By addressing the root causes of neurological dysfunction your symptoms can be significantly reduced or eliminated.

What happens in your session:

Sally will use a muscle test via touch and strength which your brain will sense and respond to. If the testing is weak, it demonstrates a dysfunctional pattern is occurring and not allowing the body to optimally function. This can be triggered by too much or too little physiological, neurological, pathological and emotion pressures. However, if a strong test is present, it shows your brain is congruent and providing homeostasis. A happy mind is a health body.

  • Blood testing will determine cancer- it doesn’t explain why.
  • Xray will show scoliosis- it doesn’t explain why.
  • MRI scan will show a tendon tear- it doesn’t explain why.
  • Muscle testing will show if your brain is congruent with neurological, physiological, pathological and emotional patterns- it doesn’t explain why.

Due to NIS non-invasive technique this is especially suitable for patients who may be sensitive to other therapies such as osteopathy, chiropractic or physiotherapy and prefer a lighter touch.
